The 5th GPCA Research and Innovation Summit will be held under the theme ‘Capitalizing on innovation: A growth imperative’. The program will address the theme from both process and the environmental angles – directing the ideation towards business impact and maintaining a vibrant and sustainable lifecycle throughout the journey from idea to commercial production and market. Broad fields of chemicals and petrochemicals will be covered on the first day of the summit with sessions emphasizing: i) hurdles to cycle completion and to achieving business impact ii) macroeconomic boundaries’ effects on innovation strategy and iii) typical case studies demonstrating how innovation impacted growth and differentiation of the Arabian Gulf petrochemicals and chemicals industry.
On the second day of the summit, innovation pertaining to the polymer and plastics industry will take prominence. The fast-advancing field of material and polymer science is expected to have significant repercussions on the future of the conventional polymer industry. The fourth session of the summit is dedicated to this particular issue and its innovation requirements. The last session will highlight innovation in polymer downstream processing and how it could drive growth in the polymer and plastics business.

The GPCA Research and Innovation Summit serves as a platform to discuss ways and means for creating a culture of innovation within the regional chemical industry. The summit also engages stakeholders in the debate to develop innovation capabilities within the region.
It has widely been praised for providing the needed platform to build strong understanding of R&I in the region seen as the key area of strategic development for the industry. The first edition of the R&I Summit was held in 2013
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) was established in 2006 to represent the downstream hydrocarbon industry in the Arabian Gulf. Today, the association voices the common interests of more than 250 member companies from the chemical and allied industries, accounting for over 95% of chemical output in the GCC. The industry makes up the second largest manufacturing sector in the region, producing over USD 108 billion worth of products every year.
GPCA supports the petrochemical and chemical industry in the Arabian Gulf through advocacy, networking and thought leadership initiatives aimed at helping member companies to connect, share and advance knowledge, contribute to international dialogue, and become prime influencers in shaping the future of the global petrochemicals industry.
Committed to providing a regional platform for stakeholders from around the world, GPCA manages six working committees – Plastics, Supply Chain, Fertilizers, International Trade, Research and Innovation, and Responsible Care – and organizes six world-class conferences each year. The association also publishes an annual report, regular newsletters and various other industry reports.
