Dr. Sulaiman Al-Khattaf is the director of Center for Refining & Petochemicals and professor of chemical engineering at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He has been conducting research in the area of petroleum refining and petrochemicals, specifically catalytic cracking, isomerization, alkylation and transalkylation of aromatics. He has worked on fundamental and applied aspects of heterogeneous catalysis with the aim of understanding reaction mechanisms and enhancing the productivity of high-value products. He has more than 120 publications in refereed journals, 30 conference publications, 2 book chapters, 4 US patents.
He is a recognized expert and the principal investigator of many client funded applied research projects for Saudi Aramco, SABIC, UOP, KACST, NSTIP. He is also leading the international collaboration between KFUPM and Caltech, TUM, University of Zaragoza and Cambridge University. He has received KFUPM distinction awards for excellence in research in 2007, 2010 and 2012. He has also received KAUST award for winning Center-in-Development in petrochemicals.
Dr. Sulaiman holds B.S. and M.S. from KFUPM; and Ph.D. from Western University, Ontario, Canada - all in Chemical Engineering.
